In the waking hours, I did win a little and then lose a little more at Mohegan Sun. That's not the only business I transacted at the world's second largest casino. Over the weekend, it suddenly occurred to me that it might be a good idea to redeem all the Player's Club points I've built up over the last three years. And I thought of a great way to do so - by getting my Mom something she asked for. Last time I graced my ancestral home with my presence, she asked me to see if I could look into getting one of those air-cleansing devices at the Navy Exchange. I was only too happy to oblige, as my parents' house is incorrigibly dusty. As I stood the mid-watch on Monday morning, I remembered this request. Than I recalled that Brookstone sells those sorts of things...and that there's a Brookstone at Mohegan. After Monday night's stint at the table, I checked the store, and confirmed that they had what I wanted, and that I had the points to get it. That was about 10:30 on Monday night, and I was ready to get home; I'd been playing for over three hours. (Incidentally, they had to close my table for half an hour to clean up a spilled beer. It's the first time that's ever happened to me.) So I went back today and bought the air cleaner - but only after playing some more, of course.
Word recently came out that two nuclear powered and nuclear armed submarines collided about two weeks ago. This fact that this could happen was surprising. Even more shocking was that neither of the boats was USS Greeneville (SSN 772). Even Jay Leno took aim at the incident, joking that the cause of the collision between Triomphant and HMS Vanguard occurred because the "captains were texting each other." Not so much likely. Regardless of the cause, this appears to be something that should have been easily avoided - especially among allied nations.
Nearly a year to the day after I joined Facebook, I made myself a Twitter account tonight. It is here.
Equation of the Now: $787,000,000,000 / 305,853,600 = $2573.13. That's more than my combined federal and state tax refunds this year, and more than one of my paychecks. And bear in mind, that Census Bureau estimate doesn't account for the Octomom...
