Saturday night sports report

Depressing thought of the night: the Marlins have played eleven seasons; the Mets 42. The teams now have the same number of World Series championships (two).

The Isles got back on the right foot tonight, with a 7-2 victory at home to Pittsburgh. Like the Stingrays game I saw last Saturday night, this game was filled with fights. The two teams meet again in the Steel City next Wednesday, in what should be a very interesting game, especially with the potential of seeing the Penguins' sensational rookie goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury.

Cornell beat the US Under-18 team by the same score in Ithaca tonight. Just six days until the season gets underway for real. Cornell football's nightmare season continues. The Big Red lost their fifth straight, falling to Brown 21-7, before a surprisingly low Homecoming crowd of 6,864.

Everyone can shut up about Northern Illinois now. Same goes for Virginia Tech.
