more on last night's game

The first period was dominated by the Flyers, even though there weren't any goals or penalties. During the first intermission everyone who came as Santa Claus (which earned those people free admission) got to go down on the ice. During this, a couple of Santas tore off their red coats to reveal Rangers jerseys. These people were promptly put on the ice by the majority. The Isles broke through early in the second on a shot that deflected off both of Dave Scatchard's skates. The Islanders played their best hockey overall in that period. The score remained 1-0 into the third, until the refs finally called a penalty, which led to the Flyers' tying goal. About six minutes later the Flyers took the lead when Garth Snow misplayed the puck and Mark Recchi flipped the rebound into the net. But the Islanders scored three goals in the final 8:16 to pull out the win. On the play leading to the first of those three, Alexei Yashin's right forearm was cut by the skate of Michal Handzus. He left the ice, underwent surgery, and will be out three months - a big loss to the Islanders. The game-winer was scored on the Islanders' only power play of the game, on a Jason Blake slapper from the left point with exactly five minutes left in regulation. Arron Asham scored his second of the game on an empty-netter to seal it up.

The greatness of the game was diminished somewhat by what happened afterward, when some people who had parked next to us placed beer cans on the back of my mom's car, and were publicly urinating (I was fortunate enough to not actually see this). My mom struck one of them with her car door as she entered the vehicle, and she made no apologies. In fact, she dropped almost as many F-bombs in the following one minute as I had heard from her in my life.

Right now they're showing something on Tuba Christmas in Tikrit on CNN. Very cool.
