the Fourth

I was about to write off last night and go get some homework done when I saw a friend coming out of the schoolhouse. I decided then to change my plans and find something to do. A bunch of us ended up at Patriots Point for what turned out to be a great fireworks show. Being from Long Island, I've seen some spectacular displays (LI is home to the Grucci fireworks 'dynasty,' if you will), but this one topped them all. The fireworks were launched from the deck of the USS Yorktown, a World War II-era aircraft carrier now serving as a museum.

The tough part was getting out of the parking lot, which took us over an hour. Our next order of business was finding something to eat. We finally settled on the fourth establishment we tried, a Waffle House not far from base. The hamburger and hash browns turned out to be pretty good.

I slept until 1415 today; now, I'm getting stuff done before I go in and take care of that homework that's been waiting for me all weekend. Among the stuff I'm getting done is trying again to call my parents. I tried early last week, and twice yesterday, but haven't been able to connect.
