christmas 2008

as Rod Stewart once said...

..."some guys have all the luck." Or in this case, some girls. Like Amy Winehouse, who has beaten drug charges after being filmed smoking crack. According to the BBC, the footage could not conclusively establish the presence of any illicit substance. I'd wager that the tape would have been sufficient to convict any commoner. But Winehouse isn't, and her riches and fame would enable her to employ a high-octane defense team that would pick the video apart. It's unfortunate that such a great chance to remove this gross apeshitness from the public forum will go unfulfilled. Contrast this with Madonna. She's had her share of run-ins with controversy, but she's still rocking hard. She's also doing far better than the vast majority of her contemporaries. My sole barometer for this observation is her latest single "4 Minutes," a super-wham-o-dyne jam recorded with two of the hottest stars of Generation Y - Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.

I bought a new TV today. After some searching in both the brick-and-mortar and online realms, I discovered that regular old "tube" TV's are a "dead technology," in the words of the immortal Andy Stitzer. I really didn't want to shell out the big bucks for an LCD unit, but I decided that it'd be a better investment. I knew that the picture quality was vastly superior, after having been spoiled on J. Raymond's 52" 1080p screen. I went much smaller for myself - half the size and two-thirds the resolution, to be precise. I bought a Samsung on clearance from Bernie's in Waterford, and since it was unboxed, I was very careful on the drive back to the New Nexus of Hate. I was at least able to watch some DVDs on it this evening; the cable guy doesn't come to install my TV and internet hookup until tomorrow.
