Final verdict - thumbs down to court system

Good news - my jury service is complete, and I can't be called again (in this state, at least) for four years.
Bad news - I had to drive 40+ miles each way and wait for 5 hours to find this out.

"Civic duty" my ass. Read the Thirteenth Amendment - it plainly prohibits involuntary servitude except for convicted criminals.
