Today brought word that many of my good friends have received their security clearances after long stretches on T-Track. I'm glad they'll be joining me in power school, and that their waits are over and the weights have been lifted from their shoulders. Some have been on hold twice as long as they were in A school - it's about time the Navy lets them go forward.

Last Friday I bought the box set of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, in widescreen form. Between sleep and work, it took me 72 hours to get through all three movies. I started "Fellowship of the Ring" Tuesday night, and finished "Return of the King" this evening. The movies make a lot more sense watching them back to back, instead of a year between each.

"The Day After Tomorrow" was as awful as I expected it to be - that's all I'm going to say about it.

Navy's lacrosse team very nearly won the NCAA championship last Monday, with Syracuse needing a late surge to win yet another title. I was actually rooting against Navy in its quarterfinal match - but that had just a bit to do with the fact that the Midshipmen were playing Cornell. :-)

Everyone is saying that Smarty Jones is going to complete the Triple Crown tomorrow, but I just don't see it happening. I can't say why. I would definitely like to see a Triple Crown win sometime during my life (the last was three years before I was born).
