It's the NHL crapping on its history and tradition by introducing this abomination known as the shootout, combined with keeping the convoluted standings system of the previous five years. The MLS tried the shootout a decade ago, and it didn't work! The purists rejected it and it didn't bring in any new fans. Also the trapeziodal zone behind the net where goalies can play the puck looks goofy.
But let's focus on the good news from today:
legalizing the two-line pass
reducing the size of goalie equipment
widening the attacking zones
Sidney Crosby isn't going to the Rangers (although the Penguins landing him seems fishy, a la Ewing to the 1985 Knicks)
and most important, THE LOCKOUT IS OVER AND HOCKEY IS BACK!!
