In a few hours I will fly out of here to meet USS Memphis. The exact destination of the flight is not presently known, but I believe it's Guam. I'm excited because I'm finally going to be doing what I was trained for, but I'm also nervous as well, as is typical of me upon any major change in my life.

Hurricane Katrina...just unbeliveable. As I saw the track and the resulting disruptions to oil supplies, it reminded me of a show I saw on FX late at night a couple of months back, Oil Storm. Already prices at some Groton gas stations have gone above $3.00 per gallon. The mayor of Biloxi, MS, said of Katrina: "This is our tsunami." He may well be right, when the death toll and full economic impact are all added up.
