das weekend

We're getting ready to head out to sea again soon, so I took advantage of a fortuitous opportunity on Friday. We had a half day of work due to a training stand-down, so I left the boat about 1200. At this time, a thought occurred to me - the ECAC semifinals are today, the first game faces off at 1630, how long is the trip from Groton to Albany? Short enough for me to make it. I saw a lot of good friends who I hadn't seen in years, and got to enjoy Cornell hockey in person for the first time since the 2003 Frozen Four. Cornell won its semifinal 2-0; immediately after the final horn, I got back in my car and drove back to Groton, because I had duty Saturday.

And it was an eventful duty day, because the base had an extended loss of power, including the shore power that comes to the boat. So we had to make a lot of changes on the fly and move up a major evolution, which sucked for everybody.

This morning I got home and found that Cornell got pounded by Harvard in the ECAC title game, but I was all right with that. This afternoon I headed out to Mohegan Sun to try to build on my winning night from Thursday. But it wasn't to be; I lost enough that I wouldn't be heading back there for a while, even if we weren't getting underway. I also moved the rest of my stuff into my new room (I moved barracks rooms early last week) and I'll probably watch Ocean's Eleven tonight - a movie about robbing a casino.
